Chapter 04 — MatchBack & Analytics

Direct mail, attributed to the click.

Our proprietary MatchBack layer ties 87% of mailed pieces to a digital action within 30 days — turning every postcard into a measurable, accountable campaign with a third-party audited CPA of $34.10.

The Methodology

Three steps from mailbox to dashboard.

MatchBack is not a marketing claim — it is a trackable pipeline. Every piece we drop carries a unique, person-level tracking element that flows through a 30-day observation window and resolves into a revenue figure you can defend in a board meeting.

  1. No. 01

A unique code on every piece.

Each mailer is printed with a per-recipient tracking element — a personalized URL, a vanity QR code, or a dedicated promo code — generated by our data engineering team and merged at variable-data print time. No two pieces are identical, and every code resolves to a known household.

  2. No. 02

    A 30-day digital observation window.

Once the USPS scans the tray at induction, we open a 30-day MatchBack window for every recipient. Site visits, product page views, add-to-carts, branded search, and direct type-in traffic are all captured at the person level — never bucketed into a vague "lift" claim.

  3. No. 03

    Conversion events appended, revenue attributed.

When a tracked conversion lands inside the window — through Klaviyo, HubSpot, Shopify, or your custom pipeline — we append it to the original drop, calculate response rate, CPA, and revenue-per-piece, and ship the report. The 13% that does not match back is profiled, not ignored; it informs your next audience build.

Mock MatchBack campaign report spread showing KPI tiles, response lift chart, and revenue attribution table.
  • A

KPI header. Pieces mailed, MatchBack rate, CPA, revenue — pinned to the top of every report.

  • B

Per-piece response lift. Every variant, creative, and list segment benchmarked against itself.

  • C

Revenue attribution. Matched transactions shown at the household level, not aggregated to a vague mean.

  • D

Recommended next drop. A drop date, a list, and a creative brief — proposed by your strategist before you ask.

The Artifact

The post-campaign report, before your standup.

Within 48 hours of your MatchBack window closing, a report lands in your inbox with the numbers your CMO is going to ask for — pieces mailed, response rate, CPA, attributed revenue, and a side-by-side against your last drop. Every figure is sourced. Every creative variant is its own row.

You do not have to ask what worked. The report tells you — and tells you what to send next.

A Named Peer

“MatchBack turned our direct mail line from a brand-building bet into a measurable acquisition channel. Before KDO we were arguing about whether the channel worked at all. Now we are arguing about which segment to scale next — and we have the audited CPA to prove the answer.”
